I've been to ak. three times in the last 6 years all unguided got a58" moose a nice carbou and ablack bear. I'll trade my hot spot for yours in ill. I will do everything on my own as i've done in the rockies ;canada[preguide laws]and alaska. When someone tells me they want a moose; I ask how bad? I'ts alot of work but well worth it to me. the carbou hunt i flew to fairbanks rented a suv and drove north of the artic circle cost me and a buddy about $1900 each for 2 weeks. The moose was $900 airline,$550 float plane and$550 for lin. and tags and$400 for transportingyour moose out of the bush and shiping antlers home. Thats $2500 each for averything. I reckamend 3 or 4 good buddies.
I just want a big illnios bow kill for my unguided collection.

I split the skull put it in a card board box filled the boxs upto i think 100lb with sleeping bags and cloths ship it usps for $150 paid . Paid$200 to have the moose flown out of the bush. Then we each filled a freezer box with meat and checked it as free baggage and donated the rest to feed the hungy.

Splitting the skull, or cutting one horn off, would've made my shipping cheaper too, I'm sure. I didn't want my antlers to be detached! Did you have a way to freeze your meat before the flight? I'd be concerned about flyig with fresh thawed meat!! And also, depending on how far a guy has to ship anything will have a bearing on the cost to do so!
Actaully, when my antlers arrived here, just a couple of weeks ago, I about dirtyed my shorts when the Yellow Freight driver handed me a bill for $1052!! I had to do some calling, but it was corrected. There was a typo that had mis-classified my frieght!!
We brought home fresh frozen fish as check-in backage from our trip. Our luggage was capped at 50#'s, or pay extra! Each airline is a little different on those things!
One other thing, we caped my moose and sold the cape to a taxidermist in Anchorage. That was an easy $200!

Thank you guys. I live near pittsburgh and plan on going to il. in a few week to check it out . After hunting in ohio the last two years I see what the rut is really like. I don't want to spend another november here in Pa. where they would sell every deer left for the money.I hate politics. Last year in 8 weeks of hunting I saw not one buck in Pa. the button bucks are being killed off with all the antlerless seasons [6weeks ] Thanks to Double Creek
