Default IDNR ARCHERY DEER CHECKINS FOR 2002

I had a freind of mine with the IDNR check into a rumor that a ranger told me about. The rumor was that the IDNR is going to do away with checking in archery deer starting 2002 in person and that the checkins would be done on a phone in bases.Well the buzz was no difinative true or false but the buzz there is that he said he can definitly see it happening and the bases for this is the cost of running check stations he heard at the office.I see both pros and cons to this checkin change. Guess well have to wait till the IDNR goes public on this matter.

Ok, i have to ask. What costs??? They pay a pro shop, or gas station, locker plant like a buck or 2 per deer. That is nothing. If its that big of a deal add it on to the permit cost.

I think its a BIG mistake. How can we properly manage the deer herd if we dont have check stations?? Anyone can call up and tell them whatever to check in their deer without telling them what they really have.

Going to try & make it like turkey season probably. This way they can stick you for another $5 for your pin.If you want it you would have to send in for it. I agree should just be added to permit cost.

I think we can manage the deer herds by doing away with the stinking unlimited doe with a bow tags!! Heck we never checked are bow kill deer in before and had plenty of deer and big bucks then. Now we have to check them in and can kill 100 a day if we could. And might I add in my area we also dont have the deer we used to because of it. It doesn't matter if you have to check them in or not if someone is going to use someone elses tag then they will no matter what. Personally as someone who lives 20 miles from the nearest check station I will be glad to see the rules changed. Now if we could just get them to limit the doe kill!!!

The problem with not checking in deer won't be people using other tags, it will be people not using tags at all. They will shoot one and hurry up and cut it up and not even tag it! I have heard of people doing that in other states.

I do believe any local business that would be interested in operating a check station can. We have had gas stations in the area, Big R stores & gun shops. Maybe you and your friends could talk to some people in your area and get them to open a checkstation right in your own town.

Il-Bow-Man We do have a check station locally at Hunters Haven in champaign next to urbana, I was thinking with the increased non resident hunting fee there would be a new source of income for the IDNR to use, But i dont know how they use there money or how it is dispersed to the various Depts. As i have previously posted i stand in opposition to this change in checkins. My husband brought up an interesting point last night he said he cant wait to see the harvest results at the end of the next deer archery season, he said he would bet me that the harvest results will be down if this change is put into effect( people not calling in thier deer) But how can you get a true reading by the report it can be due to fewer deer harvested or people not calling in there deer?Fewer deer called in would mean fewer tags being sold which would mean less money for the IDNR.

Ok, i have to jump up on the soap box here<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

They already changed the law for Road Kills. You dont have to call the deer in if you want to keep it unless your are taking it to a tannery or taxidermist. Isnt roadkill #'s a big part of checking the size of the herd in certain areas??????

Ok now about the NR price increase. This money was supposed to be used to purchase new property for everyone to use for hunting. They are going to bring in in the area of 1.2 million dollars of additonal revenue on this increase. But guess what???? The money is just being tossed into the general fund and not earnmarked for anything. So, lets rip off the NR hunters and toss the money in our general fund to pay for a bike path or whatever. This REALLY ticks me off. I have no problem with the cap on NR, but to take all that money and for what??????

Now if we go to a call in system i think people will still buy permits. But what will they call in??? With the 2 buck limit, they call in with their buck hanging in the garage and say its a doe.
Poachers are poachers but i think this would make other people think about being dishonest.

And with the 1.2 million extra they are bringing in i think checkstations could be paid for.

Oh, yea one other thing. The NR's have to order their permit from Bas Pro in Missouri. They are making like 166,000 dollars for doing this. Money thats being charged to NR and not even staying in our own state. Why dont they go to a draw and charge a 5 dollar app fee instead of the current 13 bucks and keep the money here????????

Ok, im off the box now............
