Guys- I had no luck thus far. I have been out hunting three times thus far in Ohio. I went out bow hunting in mid-October at Pike Forest State Park and then I went gun hunting for two days at Hocking Hills. Both times I had no luck, hell I didnt even see a deer! My buddy did get a very small buck while gun hunting at Hocking Hills but besides that we saw NOTHING. I am looking to get out the week between Christmas and New Years since I have off work and the wife does not.
I live inbetween Dayton and Cincinnati near Middletown, Ohio and I am looking for private land to hunt on. I have had so little luck and such hunting presure on public land I just can deal with it any more. Anyone on this board from that area and if so do you hunt private or public land? I would be more then willing to share my harvest and even help out around the farm if I had access to private land.
If anyone has access to land in that area or knows someone I could talk to please help a fellow bowhunter out and drop me an email.
Thanks,

My buddy shot and killed a very nice 13pt buck last night. He just now brought it to my work, and let me tell ya.....it is an awesome buck!!!. He shot it last night and called me. He told me about the shot, and I told him that deer is dead!!! Sure enough he found him this morning approx. 70 yards from where he shot him. He shot the deer in 25 mph winds and snow blowing all over. He also said the buck was chasing 4 different does in the woods. IMO it sounds like the 2nd rut is here!!!

I go to school in Athens county and hunted there all of gun week. Ive counted about 9 hunters, through talking, checkin stations and on this forum, that have shot small spike or button bucks from the area. It surprises me at the number of hunters taking small bucks on public land down there, sounds like the quality buck population may take a beating for the next 3 or 4 years in and around athens county.

I hunt In Bethel/Felecity in Clermont county. 7 Bucks have been taken this year. 5 eights all young[:@]. @ Nines, one young[:@] and one that was 6 1/2. However, I have not hunted that property since the begin of Dec due to lack of managment. A place were you get yelled at for shooting does is not for me.

i hunt in henry county on private land and shot a doe
i have a feeder and they haven't hit it very hard during bow season so i found out where they were and sat for two nights during october to get a shot one night with a decoy and the other without
have seen alot of deer couple good bucks including the one my neighbor hit with his car (walked with a limp) and alot more than last year but i don't think this doe all week during gun season is going to help with the populations in my area [:@]

This was my first year bowhunting in OH, jefferson county, and I got a 135" 10 point at 12:10 on sat nov 13th. You don't see the numbers of deer like WV but the quality and number of bucks was way better. From opening day till I shot mine I had seen 24 bucks 14 does and 17 fawns. 8 of the bucks were 2 1/2 or better. Only saw about 1 deer per hour but it was a lot more exciting than hunting in WV. Harder hunting and slower but when you saw one it got your heart beating a lot faster. Looking forward to the rest of bow season and for next fall.
