I grew up in St.Louis county (near the missouri river), but currently finishing up degree down in Rolla. Plenty of public hunting land around here - Mark Twain National Forest. It is mixed in with private land, so you really need a map to see EXACTLY where it is.

Busch's wildlife or private land near Fredricktown are the other places I shoot at. Not a big fan of hunting at Busch's, as there are too many people doing things other than hunting (and they don't allow .22s for small game, for good reasons of course). Would love to find some good huntable land within 45 minutes from St.Louis, but so far it has proven elusive.
