Default Illinois Squirrel hunters

Went Squirrel hunting for the first time this season and managed to take 3 with my trusty Marlin model 25 bolt action .22 rifle. I paid about $75 for it about 25 years ago and it still shoots great. Took 1 squirrel cutting Black Walnut and the other 2 seemed to be going from point A to point B. Looks like they are just starting to cut Black Walnut fairly hard. Found a few Shagbark Hickory trees they had done some test cutting in, but nothing serious yet. Thought the drought would affect the mast crop this year, but most of the Walnut and Hickory trees i checked seemed to have a fairly good crop on them. Going to try again next week and hopefully find them getting serious in the Shagbark Hickories.

Congrats on a successful first trip out. What part of the state are you hunting?

I'm on the north side of the state, going to give it a shot Saturday morning on a little piece of land in LaSalle County. Hoping the rain gets the shooms growing too.
