Default Lake Okobji Iowa

Has anyone ever fished Lake Okoboji????
I was told that the panfishing is very good there.
If that true I may plane a vaction and go fishing this year.
What is the best place to stay at on the lake?? we would rent a cabin for the week. What end of the lake is the best fishing???

I live around there inthe 80's, it is called the Great Lakes of Iowa and is a really big resort area in the summer and busy. It is better ice fishing than fishing in the summer. You would bebetter off heading up to Minn. or upper part of Michigan in the Traverse City area.

My cousin and I fished there about 5 years ago out of a paddle boat. We caught tons of blue gill. We were fishing in the souther 1/3 of the lake. Every summer our family goes and stays at Village West for a week. If you are taking the whole family it is a pretty good place. 3 pools, 2 mini golf courses, arcade, etc. Its a pretty fun place but might be hard to get a place for a week there.

Ice fished there for the last 8-10 years and have always done well. Especially pan fish. Was always told that there are to many pleasure boaters out there in summer and can be dangerous with all the boat traffic. Thought about maybe driving there in summer with the family to see what its like. Never been there without ice or snow for the most part.

fished a couple bass tourn. there about 5 years ago and found it to be a very good lake for fishing, seems everyone on the lake just partying and screwing around. Everyone in our club brought in limits of small and large mouths. If I remember right you can access 3 or 4 lakes without pulling boat out of the water. I had a good time there.

On the weekends, that is true. We are always there the week before the 4th of July. On the weekends, its not even worth trying to go out on the water. During the week it isn't too bad. There are still plenty of pleasure boaters out but there is also plenty of room to fish.
