I went out in Northern IL this past weekend and then once at lunch...found a ton of sign...saw some deer...but no sheds. Too much snow right now here...figure most are buried unless you find it in a really trampled down area. Waiting for a thaw and then a freeze before going out again.

Most bucks won't shed til March..........if you shed hunting private property and don't have permission to hunt the adjoining properties, all you're doing now is pushing those bucks off your place and they will shed on the nieghbors.I would wait til at least mid-Feb. before going out shed hunting.

lungbuster, I have to disagree with you. I've found that the majority of bucks are completely shed by middle feb. especially in a year when it's this cold, they're gonna shed earlier than normal this year. there is just too much snow right now.

Could be in different areas of the state if food is a problem for the deer.........but in south western Wi. I see alot of bucks hanging onto thier headgear through March. Most of these are younger bucks 1.5 and 2.5 year old, but there are some mature bucks that don't shed til then either, deep snow or not..............I don't think there is one hard and fast rule that says any buck will shed by a certain time, and if you want to shed hunt now, by all means do so, personally i have found through years of experience , that it pays to wait til at least the beginning of March.

Seen three deer today northeast of Holmen, WI... didnt see any racks. Walked four miles today and didn't find a thing. I think its still too early.
