Default Higher Licenses for fin, fur and feather? Poll...

In Ohio, our great leader has proposed a higher price for things like hunting and fishing licenses.

Have we sportsmen and women not pulled enough of the burdon of society? We support both wildlife areas and refuges.

Why should the government charge us more for the use of nature to pay for thier travel and what not when they encourage us to pass on the outdoors to our younger generation.

My poll is...

Is OUR<u></u> government asking too much of the sports men and women of this country?

We pay taxes on ammo, tags, land and whatever you can think of just so they can travel frivolously, is it worth it?

I am not a rebel, I am just concerned as to where our sportsmen and womens' future is going?

Right now General huntin licenses are $15, and deer and turkey stamps are $20. I do think it's ridiculous that they're raising the prices on everything. It just doesn't make sense that all the taxes are going to be raised because they need revenue to balance the budget, but yet there's supposed to be a ten percent increase in government spending. It's messed up how they take money from everyone, then demand more money to take.

I don' t live in Ohio..but, you know, I wouldn' t mind paying for it if we(the hunters) weren' t treated like the bad guys all the time.

You know what I mean??

This is the first raise in license fees in over ten yeas according to our local Ohio Department of Wildlife Officer that gave the report at my gun club last night. The fee raise is a reasanable one. If you do a little digging you will see the number of hunters is down and the department is in jeopardy of losing $1 million dollars in funding from the general fund. The department has already cut back 10% across the board. They are now going to have to rent a truck to take their tractors back and forth to maintain the parks. They lost the only truck in their fleet that is powerful enough to pull their tractors to each park. The employee count went from over 500 to 400 in the past few years. Personally, I support this license hike even though I am unemployed. I would rather donate the extra $4.00 to the Department than spend it on a burger of a box of shells in order to do my part in helping Ohio help it' s hunters and fishermen. I mean really, what is an extra $4.00 for the license and another $5.00 for a deer or turkey tag. All that means is that you skip McDonald' s or Burger King once or twice a year.

Another thing to remember is that every license dollar goes right back into the Department' s budget, not the state' s general fund. Try looking at other states and then complain about how bad it is here in OH.

This is such a small price to pay to pay to guarantee that our kids have the natural resources to hunt and fish in the future. I, for one, want my kids (when I have them) to enjoy the outdoors, and more importantly have a place to enjoy them!

I have no problem with the raise. Right now if you buy a hunting license, spring & fall turkey and deer you spend $75. For that amount you can hunt all the regular seasons plus varmints during the rest of the year. Squirrel season opens in September, and rabbit and grouse close on Feb. 28. That gives you 6 months of hunting for 75 bucks. How many movies can you attend, golf games, sporting events for that amount?

Of course, I buy the wetland stamp, federal migratory stamp and fur takers permit, but still a great value. I also buy my $101 non-resident license for PA. Add in another 50 bucks for PA & Ohio fishing and I can have a ball all year around!

The NSSF just sent us outdoor writers a booklet on how sportsmen & women support the economy. You can probably find it on their website at www.nssf.org.

It' s not that I mind paying for the higher priced license, and I reckon I will. I realize prices go up over the years, and $4 in ten years isn' t that bad. The thing is that I can' t help but think that Taft is behind this. It' s also hard to swallow that all the money is going to stay in the ODNR or the USFW. The way this state is, this country for that matter, I just don' t believe some of the money won' t be used for other things. If I knew the ODNR was getting all the money, then I wouldn' t mind at all. I don' t believe that though, and it rubs me a little bit rough to think we' re being taxed to front the problems through out the rest of the state.

I agree. I think it was in the late 80' s or early 90' s when DNR lost " some" state and federal funding and had to inrease the price of fishing and hunting. If this raise in prices is due to inflation, helping our children enjoy the out of doors, creating better habitat for game and non-game animals go for it. I will help all I can afford.

I am a smoker, so I am used to helping people whom do not have the same habits as I do. I am a sportsman, and I am tired of paying for trips, conventions, roads (that do not benefit wildlife areas), hotels, cigars, drinks and what not for these politicians who are supposed to support us. I feel that if it is for us or our future generations, GREAT and more of it! If it is for the fat ones, leave us sports " persons" alone!
