In our area here the weekend after Valentines day seems to be the magical time to get out and put on some miles. If you head out into the woods before that you may find some but you run the risk of bumping some bucks.
Most of the larger sheds I find are on the south sides of the hillsides, I usually find them when we get a late winter thaw. Late Feb. to early March.
Good Luck

It varies with the hardship or stress of the winter but I start hunting for them around Valentines day.
Saw one with a full rack the other morning in Whitnal Park on the away to the gym.
Im going bow hunting on Tuesday, hope to see one then.

I was suprised to find a matching set of sheds from a large racked buck on 1/22/02 here in east central Illinois. I wasnt really expecting to find any that early but I thought what the heck it dosent hurt to look. The sheds were so fresh one still had a small amount of bright red blood on it. I also wondered if the warm weather affected shedding also?
