IL guys
Any IL guys have success thus far???

RE: IL guys
I was out all day on Monday and didn't even get close to anything. I spooked 2 doe out of the field first thing in the morning. Saw 12 turkey about 200 yards away around 2pm and saw 4 doe in the field next to where I was hunting as I was leaving to call it a day. While in the stand I never saw a single deer. Hopefully better luck in 2 weeks when I get back out.

RE: IL guys
Haven't got out yet!!!

RE: IL guys
I tagged one on Opening day around 3:30 pm. It had been already tagged by someone else who shot out his guts. The shot from the guy was about 6" up from the left ham and exited behind the ribs. I saw the small 3 point buck walking thru the bean field with his head down and not paying any attention to his surroundings. He was on auto-pilot. So looking thru the binos I knew he was hurt bad and decided to take him. He walked into a very small open part of the field and I put one in the near side lung and liver and he was down within 60 yards. This was on Chouteau, Island and I was 1200 yards from my truck. Talk about a long, hot drag out.

RE: IL guys
I hunted southern Illinois, monday and tuesday, and the only thing I got was a bad casy of poison ivy[:@].I did see some deer, and turkey but none in range to shoot. It was really windy, dry and hot.I got back home wednesday and checked some public grounds out in north west Illinois.I wish that I didn't take the first week of October off for hunting this year, next season I will wait till about the third week or so.Oh how I itch!![:@][:@]

RE: IL guys

RE: IL guys
TOO HOT:
I like to let them hang for a couple of days before butchering.I hate being rushed into processing. Bill |
RE: IL guys
I've been collecting my slickheads. Despite the heat saw several bucks tearing up the Thumb Willows, One was a mature (6.5) 9 point I have a long history with. All activity is last 20 min.

RE: IL guys
I was down there all week in southern ILL and have never hunted in heat like that!! I passed on a nice 115-120 8pt opening morning and saw dink bucks every hunt but we couldn't find any mature does?? Just tons of fawns, we had 9 fawns without a single mature doe under us for about two hours Fri night!! Walt
|
RE: IL guys
Youre right walt it was hot!!The wind made it feel a bit better,I had my ASAT leafy suit on with a tank top and shorts which helped too. What county in So Illinois where you hunting?I was hunting Franklin.
|
RE: IL guys
Went opening day from 2pm until dark and didn't see a single deer. I had 3 others hunting my farm as well and 2 of them didn't see a thing but the 4th guy saw a buck fight between a 3 year old 10ptr and an 2 1/2 year old 8 ptr. My dad went Tuesday and he didn't see anything either. Very frustrating as I've been scouting all summer, seeing lots of deer out early in the heat. Hopefully the cold spell coming in tomorrow will help!

RE: IL guys
Took this buck 9 AM October 3rd on Will County public land. A cool front had just passed through hours before, dropping humidity and temps 10 degrees. Had a bachelor group of three come in, probably got caught feeding late.

Yes wednesday was the only day we saw really any deer movement to speak of this past week. We hunted hard all week and took the boys out in this heat for their youth hunt but it was just brutal. Congrats on a nice buck.... 79 Bronco St.Clair county, Il |

drstalker, Ya I backpack a lightweight stand & climbing stix with me. Always pre-scout as far back in as possible, and strategize based on the other guys I see there. I am in excellent shape, work out year round. Minimal body fat to haul with me. I have a system down pretty good.

RE: IL guys
I was out Saturday evening (Peoria cty) for the first time this season. Got a young doe at 6:15. 30 yard shot and she only went about 30-35 yards, Saw one other doe with her and that was it. By buddy only saw one doe which was probably the doe that was with mine since it ran off in his direction. I'm glad to see it has cooled off since then. It was 87 degrees when I shot her so we butchered her that night. I'll be out in Kane cty this weekend hunting a sleeper spot! Hopefully I'll get the big guy!

RE: IL guys
Macoupin Co,
I killed a nice mature doe on Wednesday 10/10/07 at 8:30 am. I was using my new silver flame broadheads and she was 20 yards exactly with a fawn without spots. It was 48 degrees when I went out and the cold had them moving. The fawn was playing around the doe and the doe was eating acorns. It was a very sweet scene as the fawn and the doe were licking each other. I figured this was a learning momement for the fawn as I shot the doe. I hit the off side elbow and did not get a pass thru. The doe ran out of sight, but I heard her moan 10 seconds later. She feel 7 steps away from my other set-up and it took me 30 minutes to find her as I did not have a blood trail, but I knew the shot was fatal as I saw the arrow sticking out and the sound of the arrow hitting bone. Did some grid searching and stumbled upon her. Nice size doe around the size of Hoyt82's doe...even in Macoupin Co. Paul |
RE: IL guys
Nice Doe Hoyt82....
I almost had a chance the other night at a doe but she just wouldn't clear into my shooting lane.I had some nice doe tenderloins today over at my buddies house. He grilled them and they were awsome. Congrats! 79 Bronco Huntin' St. Clair in the land of Lincoln |
RE: IL guys
140-150 class 11 pnt this week in morgan co. not mine but my area

RE: IL guys
I put a tape on my buck tonight. Gross scored 137 4/8", but 12 2/8" in deductions (ouch) will knock him out of P&Y by less than an inch. Bout what I thought when I looked at him. I'll get him mounted anyway.
The G-4 without a match cost 7"+ alone. Ha! |
