RE: INDIANA hunters
Opening day luck. So much for scouting....didn't really see a lot of sign, no scrapes, rubs, etc, so my setup was to cover a pinch point in the woods. I thought I might get a shot at a traveling deer. Well, @ 8:45 am he just wondered past me at a slow steady walk.It was a 35 yd. shot. Sometimes the best thing you can have on your side is LUCK!

RE: INDIANA hunters
It was Thanksgiving night, I was heading to a stand that i had to cut through on a low lying lane. I get to wards the lane and i can see its flooded (waist high). SoI head straighteast and finally cross higher in the woods where its thick. This brought me out to a wooden latter stand. I decided to just set that stand... about 5:20 a doe comes out 35 yards to the west, and i can see there was a couple more with her(2fawns,2yearlings,her=2nd biggestand a huge doe). i let them head north east until they reach 80yds. and shoot the 2nd biggest doe. She plows dirt for 30 yd and drops. I start reloading the m/l, as I'mputting in the loada small buck starts running another20 ydssouth of me. i get the load half way down when a 3 does (5 total in the group)step out on the path the first ones did. I let does get to about 80yds and as they do a mouth grunt as i finishseating the XTP.I slip the new cap on and shoot. Sheshoves dirt for about 10 yards and drops. Both shots took out the shoulders
First doe shot is in my right hand second is in the left |
RE: INDIANA hunters
eelriver thats a nice buck congrats.
Monster glad your still seeing deer I was out again tonight and not a damn thing was moving, I know it was windy but nothing at all. Seems like the deer have disappeared. However I did notice that theres a field a couple miles west of me off of metz rd that there are deer in everynight, tonight there we at least 15 out there. I have some land to hunt in southern allen county about 400 acres of which probably 100 is wooded. I am going out there tomorrow to set up a couple of stands and I am going to hunt it fri, sat and sun. Hopefully some big boys are hiding in there. |
RE: INDIANA hunters

Where at in southern Allen? My family owns a bunch of land on the northern half of Adams and some on the southern half of Allen.

RE: INDIANA hunters
Its just north of the GM plant right off 69. My family does some real estate projects and just purchased this property. Its all slated for development unfortunately. However its a quite a large project and I should be able to hunt it for many more years.
My father n law lives out by Poe and has deer around his house all the time. Said he's had several bucks hanging around I am tempted to go sit on his porch! Ha As far as our proptery in near Metz that is stickly hunting land, its been managed more for upland game birds but has some potential for deer which we have been doing over the last 5 years. Put in several food plots and planted some evergreen and hardwoods to compliment the warm season grass fields. The only problem with that property is its does not have enough woods, so when the hunting pressure is on I think the deer leave our area and start spending time in the woods near by. Just a guess but I have no other explanation. Seems to happen every year. |
RE: INDIANA hunters
My uncle owns a bunch of land by Poe, but he lets anyone and everyone hunt it. [>:]
