Default Public land turkey in Missouri

Anyone have any recommendations for a state land turkey hunt next spring? My buddy and I are thinking about making the trip across the river to give MO. gobblers a try.

Hunt public land at your own peril... Never been turkey hunting on public land, but they are packed during the regular, rifle deer season. Bow season is much less congested and a little less dangerous.

This site will take you to all of the Conservation areas. They are broken down by county, region, etc.

Indian Trail park has lots of good turkey hunting, and is also surrounded by lots of Mark Twain National Forest, which also has lots of turkeys in it. It gets a little pressure, but nothing like deer season.

I live in southeast Mo. and the public land hunting is pretty good. We have about 63,000 acres in our county alone of public land. Most people don't likeit because they have to do some foot work to find birds. I have killed many, many birds on public land. Private land is ok, I hunt some private, but the real challenge is killing a bird on public. Most people would rather take the easy way out. To each his own.

I've been hunting MO every spring for a number of years......... I've never had to hunt public areas because permission to hunt private land is so easy to obtain...... Sometimes I offer a small trespass fee,but even that is usually declined. Just ask in a respectfull way.... Now,in my home state of NC..... FORGET IT! Everything is leased up!
