I can't stand it, the week is going too slow!!! Didn't get to deer hunt last year, had a heart attack the week before the season opened!!! Went scouting last weekend, all kinds of sign....looks like a good year weather wise, too! Must get there early, 'cause we are hunting in a State Forest, and it's everyone for himself.
Good luck to everyone, and remember...."squeeeeeze that trigger"

Iowa Hunter,
You are brave. I don't normally hunt the opener as it gets crazy out there. I have been debating if I am going to get in my blind which has ben slow or hunt on the ground where I know deer will be pushed.
Trouble is on the ground I may have to dodge slugs too. Good luck to everyone. Nicolas I wish you luck also. Should have been here a month ago during the rut. Things have slowed down now but there are many huge bucs still there if we can get them moving.
The deer seem to really have gone nocturnal during this cold snap.

Shaggy 2 - Yeah, it gets crazy sometimes, but you can't beat the odds opening morning when there are still a lot of deer that don't know what's going on.....even some big bucks get caught in the frenzy, two years ago I shot a nice 10 point at 7:30 AM, he was trying to sneak away from all the ruckus....we hunt on the ground, 'cause we're in a low area, and sometimes the slugs come from the high ground through the treetops....so no tree stands for us!

LOOK OUT BAMBI !!!!!! HERE THEY COME !!!!! Naw, really though, I was in my treestand last night near Waterloo and I watched a very nice buck chase a doe around a picked bean field. Later a forkhorn came under my tree looking for love. There I sat with just an antlerless tag left to fill. Man, I love deer hunting. Jim

Speaking of Bambi, I remember when I got my first nice buck mounted and my grand daughter cried because she thought it was Bambi....after some quick thinking, I told her that this deer was the one that was fighting with Bambi on the movie, so then she thought it was OK!!!LOL
