While not in Illinois, I have been using lonely female howls and wimpers since the first of January and have done good. Give it a try and good luck !!!

How do you make lonesome female howels and wimpers? What brand of calls do you use?

Duckdog:I don't know if you got my PMs

RedneckBill,
Go to Cabelas.com, they sell Randy Andersons Predator hunting videos. These videos are very educational and fun to watch.
The lonely female howl is is about a medium pitched howl that last about 3-4 seconds, and the wimper sounds like the ki-yi or hurt dog yelp, except it is real short yelps.
My favorite calls are Dan Thompson calls, although I started out with Primos calls which are good calls.
I hope this helps, Good Luck!!

First thing I thought of while reading the story about the dead turkey is bobcat. I'd be willing to bet that a bobcat might be eating some of your birds. You might be hunting the wrong predator.

The coyote hunters were out in force this past weekend in Richland county running them with dogs. They started on the Richland/Lawrence county line and ended up about 6 miles into Richland county. They came near my property while I was hanging out in my deer stand, so i could hear the dogs. It was music to my ears. I went out to the road and chatted with one of the hunters. He claimed that they had seen about 30 coyotes over the course of the day.

Yeah, i thought that 30 was a little high. But, he insisted that they had jumped a couple of packs of them in addition tothe onesthatthe dogs chased throughout the day. But then again, one of my parents neighbors has trapped at least 6 coyotes thus far on their small farm across the road. So,the area is infested with them.

I don't have any dogs. These folks were from Noble which is about 15 miles west of me. According to the guy I met, they hunt all over a couple of counties in the general area. I wouldn't mind hooking up with them, but nowadays, so much land is posted and so many folks are uptight about even a dog chasing a coyote across their back 40 that I have been reluctant to get involved with it.

yeah but they but the land owners cant do anything if the dog is on their land as long as the people stay off. but i still try to recpect the landowners wishes. the problem is those coyote go in all directions so its hard to tell if they will go on someone elses land or not. we ran on public ground a couple months ago and had a guy shoot one of our dogs. he was brought up on charges and had to dish out 900 dollars for the dog.
