Update 10/30:

Fawn and Does still together, no chasing at all, bucks not yet cruising. Temps were 38 in the morning and 64 this afternoon. Does moved at 4:45pm, I seen nothing in the morning. SW winds brought us some crap weather, warm that is. I heard that they are forecasting a Mild winter for the Chicagoland Region and Unusually Warm for Southern IL. Thats not good news either. Long term forecasts say near 70 for a high thursday in Chicago. Mostly in the low to mid 60's though for highs. On a side note, rubs showing up more and more, bigger rubs too, big boys are moving late or early, no miday movement that I have seen. I do know last year on November the 13th highs were in the 40's lows were in the 10's-20's, I miss that weather!

I'll be in Hamilton County Nov. 4-12 as well... Also wondering what the experts thing the warmer temps will do to the rut and daytime activity?

The moon is going to be straight up in the middle of the day when I get there and almost a dark moon.

By the end of the trip it will be straight up right at dark and about 86% visible.

I can also add to the post by telling you guys a guy that is going with us was hunting this past weekend in southern IL and one shot a 140 and the other missed a 150+. They said the little bucks were running does and the big boys were just walking. The bigger one was with following behind a couple does...Not really acting 'rutty' from what i was told.

Guys:

I am going back down tonight for a 3 day hunt in West Central Illinois. All I can say regarding the weather forecast is, I have a better chance getting a deer in 65-70 temperatures than I do from sitting behind my desk.

They have to move some time, either to eat or to check the does.

In the heat, I am imagining that it will occur mainly a dawn and dusk.

The rising moon in the day should help - at least, that's what the Drury boys say.

Good Luck to all.

It will be getting kinda warm in the day, but still think it is cold enough it won't slow them down much.

Im going this weekend and gonna be out all day. I am also going to be setting up a mock scrape near my stand with a dripper.

Hey guys - I moved this into the Midwest forum where it fits in a little better. Please don't hate me.

As for me - I haven't seen much movement at any of my spots, but the rubs and scrapes are popping up almost hourly and some of the other guys in the office have been seeing a lot of movement. Mostly small bucks, but some bigger guys right at first and last light.

Hopefully this weekend things really start heating up!

10/30- I had 3 young bucks chasing a doe come running in from behind me sunday evening. They where harassing her but she didnt appear quite ready.

10/31- I used The can and Rubberneck and called in a 2.5yr old 7pt. He is the one i have been seein workin his rubline.

A guy that works for my dad said he seen a nice 10pointer right where I park my truck early sunday morning. The big boys seem like they are appearing early and late. Hopefully that will change soon!

Hunted West Central Illinois on 11/2, 11/3, 11/4...still very warm.

Bucks still on their morning routes from feeding to bedding in the AM.

They are still chasing the does in the very late PM.
Too dark to shoot.
The picked fields were full of deer each night as I was trying to climb down from my stands.

I am not sure what this weekend's change of weather did for them - however - the new 10-day forecast still shows above normal temperatures.

They may be right that it will be a later rut this year (smack dab at the beginning of firearms season).
