I’m looking to head down into the WI CWD zone for an early rifle season hunt. I’m looking for some insight from you WI sportsmen. If a guy was to come on down how hard is it to get on some of those private farms to hunt? What about hunting pressure, general attitudes, deer numbers, areas I might look at or worth checking out - not worth checking out, state land, buck doe ratio’s etc. I looked at the WI DNR web site and left the site a bit confused. If you have any insight or can share some details with me, I’d sure appreciate it. Thanks in advance everyone!

First off, if you dont have a tag yet, the likleyhood of you getting one is nil. If you do have a tag, you'll have to figure out what zone you are in, if you are in cwd, if you are in t-zone, herd reduction zone, or herd eradication zone, then i can help. I am not on this forum much, so please send me an email ([email protected]) and I can try to help you out....but be warned, i may sometime ask for your help in hunting advice in the future!!

I Live in zone 77A, which is aT-zone, cwd, herd reduction AND herd eradication area! So yeah, i understand how it can be confusing!!

Regardless of CWD, the private land around here (Sauk County/Wisconsin Dells area)is really tough to get on to. That's why anything that has woods is selling for $4000-6000 per acre. Everyone wants their own land and wants to keep everyone else off of it.
