Rend Lake 5-19-20
The water at Rend on the lake was muddy and visability was poor on the lake. Some ofthe Illinois Bowfishers where there with the United Bowhunters of Illinois for their 5th annunal Bowfishing Bash. Many gar where shot below the spillway with club member Tim Nuss taking the big fish, a 23# Bighead to win a new AMS Retreiver Reel. Club member Bill Kissner cooked some of the best ribs I have ever eaten and hiswife Jeanie makes some great homemade BBQ sause that is out of this world.Member Rick Stillman was there stealing some ideas for lights for his boat as was Casey and Gary Allen from East ALton. Casey and Gary had never shot fish at night and Kendall and Christine took them out Saturday night.Member Drew got to shoot with the "Shot in the Dark" boys from Mt. Vernon and showed them boys how Central Illinois Boys shoot fish. A good time was had by all that attened, There where more gar to shoot at below the spillway than you wanted to shoot at but no carp down there. Can't wait for next years event.

Bill's ribs were awesome!!! If he ever wanted to start a rib restaruant, he'd be WAY too busy.
It was great to shoot with Gary and Casey. I just wish the conditions were a little better.
It was also fun (as always) shooting with Drew. Poor guy. Once you shoot bigheads, Evergreen will never be the same.

There were gar below the spillway like can only be imagined. A person could have flat worn themselves out. Most were pretty small, but there were enuf bigger ones to keep it interesting. There were also some bigheads there. The pic is a bighead that Brad Gentry shot with a Hail Mary shot across river. Good thing he was shooting a bottle reel, a spinner wouldn't hold enuf line to reach.

More pictures from the weekend...
The UBI crowd
Team Shot n the Dark striking a pose and showing off their team shirts.
Dave and Casey with the spiffy fish barrel Gary Allen made.
It has a drain hole too.
Rend Lake 'spillway'. This is a bit of a walk from the dam. Truly, more gar than you'd want to shoot are there. (long way to carry them back)
After a slow night out on the lake with lights, we left Sunday morning for the KY dam.
A stop for gas and suddenly the Wonder Twins appeared.
Drew quickly spots his first bigheads and getsone with his first shot.
It wasn't long before the barrels were full and we had to head home.
We brought at least a dozen bigheads home. (two coolers worth plus four iced down in a barrel) They sure take up a lot of room.
Anyhow, both Circe- the dogess of Awe and Doom and Missy- the Picky Dog took right to bighead munching. Mmmm... raw fish head!
