That boat should get you anywhere there are fish to be pierced.

Check backwaters, mudd flats, and flooded timber.

Welcome aboard there csqrizz. It is soooo much fun. With your set up and where you live you need to take a trip down to Lake carlyle dam. You put in and run slowly up the bouys just below the dam and drift back down stream. You can shoot a gar until your fingers get sore. They are just thick, and some pretty nice ones too. Plus the big heads are in good numbers. But I will warn you once you shoot one, there is no going back. If you do not know what they are as you are drifting down you can see them coming up stream with their mouths open filter feeding. Aim low and Let'er go. Dont for get to hang on. You are no allowed to have a live on in the boat, so you have to dispatch them. There are usually folks along the river that will take any you do not want. Float down to just below the lower bouy and do it again...johnny b.
