Default Fall Turkeys

Even though most folks would argue that the spring season is the best, with the excitement of the gobbling and strutting, and the ease of locating birds, I love the challenge of fall hunting. It's not the same, but it's a lot of fun for me. Slipping around trying to locate birds or roost sites all day and once found, sneaking in right under them and getting in position to take one when they hit the ground in the morning. They're not always easy to find and they're damned hard to sneak up on, but thats the challenge. I use no calls or decoys, just good camo and my favorite shotgun. It may take me 3-4 days total to bag two turkeys, but when I'm done I feel I've really acomplished something. I've taken many birds also by simply walking until I bust a flock and then follow them up relentlessly until hopefully, I get close enough to shoot. Bust em up, watch where they go, walk there, try to slip in and see them before they see me, usually spook em, watch where they go, you get the idea. I dare say that under these conditions I'm as proud of a hen for the Thanksgiving table as I would be of the largest gobbler I've ever taken. Of course the big gobblers are out there too and I've often taken one of them in the fall, but as difficult as stalking turkeys can be, I'll often settle for any fall turkey. They're all legal, and they all taste good.
Of course chasing turkeys is just part of it. I'm also scouting my land for deer andother animals while I'm out there. Those fall days are great to be out and about. I'm not really sure if fall turkey hunting is just an excuse to get out and scout deer or if scouting deer just happens to be a great chance to walk out a turkey, but they are one and the same to me. If you'd like to hunt an area with loads of turkeys and maybe scout out your next deer stand, give us a try. www.hiddenvalleyhuntingllc.com I'll lower our daily price for you to hunt fall turkeys,or scout, or whatever you want to call that fall weekend away fromthe spouse, because I know once you've seen our place you'll hunt with us again and again! Fall Turkey dates and tag prices can be found on our site or at MDC.com,(that is Missouri Dept. of Consevation .com)
