i just got a remington 597 .22. what is the biggest mm size scope i should put on it? i am guessing a 32mm is probably standard? also what scopes around $50 can you suggest for me? is a 40mm too big or pointless for some reason?
thanks,

You can put any kind of scope you want on them .
I also have a 4x32 mm on mine , an El Cheapo I got from Sportsman's Guide , and it works just fine . Another thing to consider is the lighting conditions where you'll be doing most of your shooting . Dimmer conditions may require a scope with a larger , more light gathering objective bell . A 32-40 mm should cover just about any conditions that you're likely to encounter .
