It's so inexpensive...is it any good, or junk? Specifically .223 ammo.

Thanks

I dont know about their .223 ammo, but i have used wolf ammo in my SKS and didnt care for it. I usually had at least 5 per box of 20 that didnt go off. I would buy a few boxes because they were really cheap and when i would start shooting several wouldnt fire. The primers were dented but they were duds, it has happened with every box of wolf that i have tried. I may just have bad luck with them, you should try and see if you have better luck.

Here We go again! Between myself and a pard we have put 10,000 rds of .223 Wolf thru Mini 14s, only feeding or fireing problems due to crappy magazines. I have put 4'000 rds thru a Colt AR 15 never a feed or fire problem. Early "green" Wolf had a bit of a problem with the coating gumming up some tight chambers. The new grey has shown no problem even in full auto fire. The primers are a bit hard so My gess a FTF is due to a light or short fireing pin strike. Also with either the green or grey there is NO! steel contact to the wepon, that is the 2nd function of the poly coating after rust prevention. If you want other opinions go to AR-15.com

This will be for a single shot NEF. As my first center fire rifle, I want some inexpensive ammo to use while I get to know the gun, break in the barrel etc. If it shoots well, I'll keep on using it. Otherwise, I may want to experiment with other brands ... I don't know.

I guess I was looking for someone to say "Stay away from that junk," or "Yeah, use it. It's a great deal."

If there's pretty much neutral feedback about it, I'll give it a try, but I won't buy too much right off the bat.

"eto" did ya read my post? I tried not to be neutral.

I will say again go to AR15.com go to the ammunition fourm, read the page after page after page of info on all brands of .223. Loads of Wolf specfic posts. These Lads burn a ton a .223 read their opinions.

Folks, if ya have repeated FTF my first move would to try the FTF rnds in a different firearm.

As for Wolf .45 acp I have fired thousands of rnds thru every thing from a 1913mfg Colt 1911 to a Goverenment Enhanced to a Thompson with never a FTF. I can't possibly believe I am that lucky.

I tryed the 223 ,if you are getting light firing pin hits you will have problems . IMO the problem for some people is tha Wolf has "hard" primers . I use it in 2 1911s one needed a new hammer spring but I had 1 round in the last 1000 rnds that did not go off ,2 hit it worked.

ive ran 1000s of rounds through alllll kinds of firearms...pistols....rifles....fully automatics....we had a few fail to fire but its because the primers are hard....but not tons of them....running them through machine guns we go through some ammo....and barely ever have trouble.....most all the time the trouble is with pistols....

I have used some Wolf ammo in a Bushmaster .223, about 1000 rounds. I didn't have any trouble with it firing or jamming but was not impressed with the accuracy. For the price I guess it's not horrible but if you are shooting a single shot rifle I would at least look at a middle of the line ammo for plinking, .223 ammo is not that expensive in general. Wolf is OK to zip through your AR at a high rate of speed but precision ammo it is not. I did not experience the FTF's reported earlier. What is the rifling twist of your barrel? Make sure you match the bullet weight to the twist, it is important in a .223. If you have the typical production 1:9 twist your rifle will like the 50 to 62 gr loads, if a tighter twist (1:7) your rifle will not like light bullets but will love the custom 69 and 100 gr match bullets, and if 1:11 or slower twist it will only like loads of high speed light weight (under 50gr bullets at least at 3,800 fps or higher MV) Enjoy.
