Nice review of Midland GMRS radios

While these things aren' t a silver bullet for communications, it sounds like when the proper things are done, they can work fairly well.

I did not read the article yet but I can tell you that one of the chief reasons that " bubblepack" GMRS radios do not get much better range than FRS radios, despite the increased power, is because of their less efficient rubber-duck antennas.
With a built-in upgraded antenna and/or a BNC adaptor style antenna you can greatly improve the range on any GMRS radio.

It seems I was partly right on. Good article by the way with some useful tips. I also suggest that folks who are interested in this type of info should check out www.popularwireless.com . They have a message board system similar to this and they really are loaded with info.
