Default Which one of these hand held GPS units is better??

I'm looking at these two Garmin GPS units, the eTrex 10 and eTrex Venture HC. Which one would be better for hunting in warm summer months to very cold winter months, ATV and truck off road trail riding? I've never used a hand held GPS before. . . . .but I hate getting lost!

Thanks in advance, NYH1!

I am a Garmin owner - have quite a few different models as I run them in my truck, )Nuvi775t) on my boat(GPS Map378), on my dogs(Astro320 & DC30 collars), and me (Rino 530 chx).

IMO - neither - pay a bit more and buy one you can upload Topo maps using a computer and/or accepts data chips such as the Micro SD card. That way memory is no big deal. You will never regret it.

The Rino 530 chx ( might not be produced but they have newer models) has GPS Map and a 5Watt radio. I can get Norad weather where I am instantly. If you have two of them it shows the other guy where he is on the GPS Map.

I went the route of trying to save a buck and have some models with built in memory. Never again.

Stick with Garmin , pick the features you need and you'll be fine.

My price limit is $120/$130. I found the eTrex Venture HC for $130 with free shipping. According to Garman's web site, you can load maps into the eTrex Venture HC. I don't need the weather channel, I know the weather before I go and I have cell phone service in most of the places where I hunt and ride.

**From Garmin's site**

eTrex Venture HC’s basemap contains lakes, rivers, cities, interstates, national and state highways and coastlines. Venture HC also includes 24 MB of internal memory, so you can load waypoints and routes from the included MapSource® Trip & Waypoint Manager software and add map detail from Garmin's entire line of optional MapSource® mapping products. Its 256-color, sunlight-readable display makes it easy to distinguish map details — even in bright sunlight.

NYH.

IMO, if you have to choose between the two listed, definitely go with the Venture HC. Way more important than the chart/topo functions it the HC - high sensitivity. Heavy canopy and deep valleys/inclines can seriously degrade signals. My first GPS was almost useless under trees in the mountains. Summer months means lots of leaves.
