I'm new to GPS. I have a very basic garmin etrex that doesn't even have base maps. So my question is, are there units out there that do the step by step driving directions as well as have the base maps, way points, etc that would be helpful outdoors? The reason I ask is that my wife would like a gps to use in her car and I figure if we spend the money, why not get one that does both. I've been looking at units but I'm gettinga little confused by what they claim to do, soI thought I'd see if anyone has first hand knowledge.

I haven't seen any that combine the mapping features for use in the car with the topo features for use in the woods yet. If there is one you can bet it'll be expensive.
