Default Gut Hook

I was looking to buy a new hunting knife. And was wondering if a knife with a gut hook worked well?

I like mine, it unzips a deer quickly and cleanly with little effort. With enough practice you can master a straight blade skinner well enough to do the same, but I prefer to let the tool do the work. I haven't sliced open a paunch since I changed to a guthook, and it really speeds up the skinning.

Sorry to hijack, but how do you keep it sharp?

In a similar vein, how do you feel about the Wyoming Knife?

I have the gerber version and I seem to slive myself everytime. Also, it is possible to get gut hook razor blades for your lockbacck utility knife. That might be a nice option.

Most of the guthooks on drop point knives have proved too small to me for use in gutting game the size of a fairly large deer on up. The best 1 I've used is made by gerber, plastic, only about 11$,and takes replacable utility knife blades. http://www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/product.jsp?Search.y=12&Search.x=7&range=3 1&SearchText=guthook&Mode=Text&SKU=G45 924
