To be honestI don't think so (now take in the fact I never been around elk), but they can handle a good bit of weight. A friend of mine has one and we where using it to drag feed to his feeders, and stuff to repair his big stand. Wehauled 5 bags of corn, 4 cement blocks, and some lumber with no problem at all.
Just to give you a bit of reference.

I have a game cart from Cabelas that is excellent. My elk come out in pieces, so this game cart (SuperMag?) has worked well. Also, very good for deer - I back the truck into the ditch and roll the holedeal in. I like to use it to haul things in theamin part ways as well.
A piece of gear I would buy again.
You can add another set of wheels to increase the capacity, but I'm not sure I would want to deal with 550 lbs in rough country. Better to make anothertrip and not fight gravity.

Thanks for the replies. I saw the one Cabelas sells and that sounds like a good deal. I may go with that one. I'm done for this year so I'll probably get one in Spring for next year.

I have a nxt shot versa cart and it is rated for 550 pounds. it is the best cart I have ever seen or used. On their website they had a video where they show it being used to haul a 550 pound pig. I don't know if an elk would fit in it but you can call them and ask them.
