Can anyone recommend agood GPS unit. I have been looking at the Lowrance ifinder hunt C. I would prefer one that is able to compute the acreage of my food plots. Price doesnt matter. just needs all the bells and whistles and waterproof.

Check the Magellan line of GPS's. They have a few that are 100% waterproof. I have Garmin eTrex Legend and it is a fantastic GPS and has all sorts of things on it. (square acreage (area) calculators, fish/hunt calendars, etc...etc... Plus it can upload/download maps. My eTrex Legend is "sort of" waterproof - to an extend. It will survive for a few moments if dropped in the water, but can't bedropped like into a 15' deep pond.

I bought a Magellan Sportrack Map unit 3 years ago and I love using it. No problems whatsoever in terms of locking on satellites or just general ease of use. I would recommend it. The only problem is that I do not see it advertised anymore so I am assuming it is discontinued. I did see that Magellan now has a Explorist Series that looks pretty impressive. If they are as good or better than my Sportrack Map then I would not hesitate to use them.

The Garmin GPSMap 76will do that, and it is a good unit. It aquires a signal very quickly, and is extremely accurate for a handheld unit. I have mappedthousands and thousands of acreswith one.
This is an older model, and I'm sure there are probably some newer additions to the 76 series that will do even more.

No questions, go Garmin. Check out the new 60csx. They have a slot for additional memory for an area you want a lot of detail. I have the 60cs and it is awesome. I will be upgrading to the new x series.

I have the Garmin Etrex Vista and have all the topo maps loaded. My old unit was a Lowrance (same as the eagle) and it was bare bones but worked well. It had a 10 year lithium battery and that was getting close to the end so I upgraded with the smaller in size Garmin. It is awesome and having the maps makes it really effective.
