Love my Nikon Monarch ATB 8X42! They are fantastic, especially when you consider the price. Performed excellent on my elk hunt this past fall and were very as good as my guides steiners. In my opinion, clarity is very similar to the more expense lenses and only loses out invery low light conditions. Compared them to the Swarovski SLC 8X30's along with a theKahles last year. Theyare both awesome optics buthad a really rough timejustifyingthat much cash for something that was only slightly better.

I love my Pentax DCF SP. Waterproof - great lenses (10x50)for far and can focus to 13 feet as well. Some optics are darker towards sunrise and sunset than looking through your own eyes. These binocs amplify low light like crazy. Great for turkey and deer hunting both. Can find them for around 500$ on the net like I did.

I bought a pair of Bushnell Legend 10x42 roof prism binos this year and was reall happy with them Crystal clear and have that anti fog layer. From what I understand they are comparable to the Nikon Monarch ATBs. I hunt over a field that goes out to 350+ yards and had no trouble picking out spikes etc. and it gave megood light gathering after sunset. Would like to just take a pair of Swarovskis to the field one time---but then I'd want a pair and my wife would kill me. So I'll stick with my Legends.

As the others have made reference to the Monarchs are the best bang for the buck going today. Want more proof? Check out the link below. It is to a comprehensive review of current binoculars on the market separated by price. It was done by the Cornell Lab of Ornitholgy and if anybody is picky about their optics it is birders.
Hope this helps.

Look at the pentax dcf-sp 8x43. One of my hunting partners has this binocular and I have an 8x42 dcf-wp. The sp is the current model and the wp preceeded it. I have compared both to the nikon monarchs and think they are noticeably better.
