Leupold Europran 30mm scopes

RE: Leupold Europran 30mm scopes
Don't own one myself but a shooting pal does. I see no benefit over my Vari x III (or other 1" models for that matter) to his 30mm Euro. The only think that comes to mind is negative having to find and buy the 30mm mounts to be used with the Euro's tube!
Trailer I believe has or had the Leuy Euro, I am sure he can chime in with more to the point info for yeah!
Best of luck.

fishpro, I have owned a number of Vari x III's over the years. However I currently own Vari X III's: 6x20x40 which sits ontop of my varmit rifle and 3.5x10x50mm on my 270 win.
My primary hunting rigs wear Zeiss Conquests. (3x9x40 on 50 cal ml & 3.5x10x44 on my 7mm rem mag)
Common theory but with qualityglass or more to the point lens coatings, their is nothing a 30mm will truly offer in terms of harnessing light for Big Game hunting. If your looking at a decent optic you'll have more than enough light gathering to get er done.

RE: Leupold Europran 30mm scopes
As skeeter mentioned I do have the 3-9 x 50 mm Leupold Euro. Leupold came out with this model to attract the Europeans. To tell you the truth, the 30 mm has no benefits in light gathering any more then the 1” tube. The 30 mm tube has the same internal parts as the 1” tube. The Euro is a little heavier and somewhat a little bulkier but it is a good scope and works well under low light conditions just as the 1” tube would. Go with a 1” tube and simplify your set up...

I took a boo at the Leupold Euro Scope specs (which is essentially the VX II packaged with a 30mm tube). Here's how it shakes out between the 2 Leuys.
Euro 3x9x40
FOV @100 33.1 (3x) - 13.1 (9x)
VXII 3x9x40
FOV @100 32.3 (3x) - 14.0 (9x)
So you gain FOV at lower power but lose as you increase the power.
Up here a Euro costs a few bucks more than the new VX II, as mentioned with no real benefits to show for the extra coin for the 30mm tube.
