Default Puppy guarantee??

I have noticed someone asking about hip and cerf guarantees on puppies. And for themost part I have notice that some people dont really want to answer the ??
It is hard to raise a dog as a family member and watch it suffer due to hip dysplasia. Its also hard to watch your dog go blind and walk into the wall, the coffee table etc. Treatment is expensive and it is so bad in some they will have to be put down.
If you cant get a guarantee, think twice about purchasing it.
If you get ready to buy a new puppy make sure you do everything possible to insure you are going to get a good healthy pup. Get a guarantee in writing and if the breeder cant give you one dont buy!

Make sure both parents are OFA good or exellent and cerf tested.

Moderator if you feel this doent belong here please delete it. But I think some people dont understand the problem and need to be aware.

Some people will not take a puppy without a guarentee some will. If both parents are OFA excellent then chances are the litter will have good hips. Barring environment issues. It is all about percentages. Now with PennHip, chances are much greater in determining if the dog has good hips & elbowsor a false negative which sometimes OFA has.

A dog that displays CHD will normally be spayed or neutered by a reputable breeder. He'll offer a guarentee on the puppies and if a puppy is found to have CHD, then he'll either replace the puppy or refund a percentage of the money including cost to have your puppy spayed or neutered.

No hobby breeder nor kennel breeder wants to pass on bad genes into the breed. That is why they get the parents tested and offer guarentees.

What difference should it make whether you are a professional breder or a backyard breeder??

Good litters are guaranteed (against genetic diseases)for a minumum of 26 months -- and commonly for 30 months.
Concerning hips : Breeding Excellent x Excellent gives you a chance that 3.5% of the pups might be dysplastic. Breeding Fair X Fair is a 16.3% chance of dysplasia. Breeding Dysplastic x Dysplastic gives you a 36.2% chance of producing dysplastic pups.

Default RE: Puppy guarantee??

The problem with any guarantee is that once you purchase a puppy the hips can't be certified for 24 months, so for the 1 1/2 years you have to wait to get the x-ray done the family is falling in love with the dog. Well if the dogstests results are negativeit's hard to give that puppy up for another. I have seen thishappen.

Default RE: Puppy guarantee??

check your facts

i have bought 3 dogs in that last 5 years
and my dad has bought 2
i bought 2 labs and achinese crested they all came with guarantees
the guarantees were 30 month and i looked into tons of kennels
they all come with 30 month and say absolutely no money will be refunded
if there is a problem the dog will be replaced but you have to give yours up
check around at your local breeders they will replace your puppy
i had one litter of pups just so i could get the dog i wanted
i picked the female i picked the male
now i picked my puppy
i had one dog with bad hips the i bought from a very reputable mn breeder they told me bring them the dog with the vet paper work they would have their vet check her and i would be put on the list for the next litter
instead we paid to keep the dog and try for the surguries well that didnt turn out the best and we ended up loosing the dog
so what did the guarantee help me none
i dont think this conversatiuon has any place in this forum
and i also believe it should never have been started
this is 100% a personal isssue

My guarantee has alway been 100% heathy puppy and honored. If the pup dont pass OFA, Cerf, I offer you a second puppy or 50% of the purchase price. You keep your original pup-dog if you agree to have it spayed or neutered. Why would I need or want the dog? I have seen many peoplethat have never heard of OFA, Pennhip, never heard of a dog going blind or having cataracts. Thats the people that will buy your pups fowlhunter. People that know whatthese diseases are will leave without blinking an eye. Also you have 3 days to have the pup checked by the vet. If he finds anything wrong, you immediatly get a refund. Its up to the buyer to get it straight and in writting before they purchase. I have a contract that will protect the buyer and myself.

Fowlhunter,

If a breeder wants a "defective" pup back in order for a guarantee to be honored, then you chose the WRONG BREEDER ! ! ! (let the buyer beware)
If you got defective pups as you state, and the breeder wanted the pups back (who's going to do that?) Then it was YOU who screwed up.
No wonder you don't think this thread should have been started in the first place.......................................[]

Most honorable and reputable breeders will give you your money back or offer the next pup free or for half price -- all you should have to do is have Veterinary Medical proof of the genetic problem and as soon as you send the breeder proof of spaying or neutering, the guarantee should be honored and you keep the dog.

I could probably list a half a dozen breeders that will give a refund:

http://www.lynnhillllewellinsetters.com/about.htm
http://www.llewellin.biz/
http://www.kimbu-k-kennels.com/guarantee.html
http://www.southerntracekennel.com/
http://www.wingsweptllewellins.com/
http://www.edgeofthebreaks.com/

There are alot more as I only checked one list of links out. Many didn't list on thier website as to their policies.

Rebel Dog,
PennHip can be done on a pup only 16 weeks of age. It's alittle expensive but much more precise in determination.
