I usually hunt right in cows. If you watch the wind, it's possible to walk right up on pigs if the cows will let you.
The downside is that a lot of shots get passed on because there are cows behind the pig. I may get a clean shot at 1 out of 5-10 pigs, the rest I have to pass on.
This one got interesting when the cows parted and left me standing out there...all by my lonesome.
Ms. Sow sensed my presence and squared off to me. She wasn't sure what I was, but did not like me being there (at about 10 yards).
I drew my pistol and fired into the ground between us and she decided to go on about her business elsewhere.

Why didn't you shoot the sow? At 10 yards I wouldn't have been shooting into the ground. I had one I thought was dead get up and charge me at less than 15 feet, I drew and fired my handgun in one motion and killed him at my feet, I was lucky. Why didn't I use my rifle? Because it was on my shoulder on a sling while I was taking photos of the hog.

I won't chance injuring stock unless things are critical.
She was not aggressive yet, just wary. It was time to change the situation before things got ugly.
