Default Introduce myself

Greetings! I live in central Ohio where the hog problem is grossly overstated. I lived in Texas where I learned to really enjoy hog hunting. Katie and I are in the process of driving back to Ohio after staying in Texas for most of the winter. The poor weather encouraged us to plan on Florida next Jan-March. We will be in the Sebring area.
I sure would like to learn more about WMAs in the area and the change of finding some land to hunt on. Saw a couple small pigs enjoying some oranges in a grove only heightened my interest. Anyway hoping to make new friends and learn something. Thanks

Any place that has a started hog population does not have an overstated problem, they have a serious problem that has the potential to get worse. The fact that we like to hunt them, does not make them desirable anywhere.

WMAs are hard hunts, especially in Florida. Good luck. I have no knowledge in that area. If you can gain permission from the orange farmers or anyone that you know down here would be more ideal. My opinion. I have had luck on WMAs but way more duds by far. 3 years on public land and got one deer. I'm not a professional but I have experience. Private land has served me way better. Last year 8 hogs and 4 deer.

Yep, and anyone making statements like that obviously doesn't know all the damage they can do and diseases they carry, especially ones that can affect domestic stock.

Topgun, thanks! Always glad to learn. My comment was made as a result of me talking with authorities in one of the four counties that have an infestation of hogs. The story I got was that there were not nearly as many hogs as the press reports. It is obvious that economics play a huge part in this hunting industry.

My comments were not meant to rate the damage hogs do or the diseases they carry. I just enjoy hunting them and eating them. Hopefully I can earn the right to post a question without the roasting..

Good grief, you didn't get roasted, you got corrected for a statement that showed an ignorance about feral hogs. I love to hunt hogs, I do it every year, I have seen the damage they do and by no stretch of the imagination do I want them in my state just so hunting them is convenient for me. If the damage is on your property I doubt you would think the population is overstated. This site provides an education for those open to it.

Read my response Oldtimr. I know what hogs can do. I didn't refer to that only a desire to hunt them. ...Deleted by CalHunter...
