Default Boar hog

Shot this boar last Saturday afternoon. First one I've had a crack at this year. Been getting lots of night pics of hogs, but they have been scarce during the daytime. Hopefully when the acorns are gone they will have to move around more in search of food.

Nice! Congrats! Can you hunt them at night there? Or is it daylight only?

Is there something that I can do to make the boars not taste so strong. I grilled the inner loins and a couple of ham steaks on grill last night wrapped in bacon. The loins tasted good but the steaks were kinda of strong. I usually soak them in salt water but didnt have the time last night. Is there anything else to try?

Nice pig..

I always bleed them out in a cooler with ice for 3-5 days. Basically until the water is clear and all the blood is gone. I don't let the meat sit in the water like some do. I drain the water and add more ice each day.

I've never had a sow or boar taste strong doing it that way.
Even the loins can be strong if you don't leach the blood out of them.

If it's a boar i've always castrated it as soon as I shot it. Not sure if it makes a difference or not, Just something i've always done.

Thats a nice Boar! I've only shot one, and was lucky to get that one. But I didn't care for the taste either. Sausage.

Soon after killing a hog be sure to cut its throat and let it bleed out. This is especially important if the hog was not shot in the heart/lung area. After cutting its throat, i hang the hog up or raise its rear end off the ground until it bleeds out.
