I am going on my first hog hunt and really want to use my bow I shoot a bear charge 65# draw with 100gr monotec G5 broadhead. But everyone I talk to says I am nuts is this a good idea or should I use my 270wsm I will be carring a .357 magnum with 180gr hollow points for a side arm if I use my bow.

You will not have any trouble with your rig. I live in Texas and I shoot a Mathews dxt @ 64# and I get complete pass thru's @ 25 yds. using the g5 montec 100 gr. I do suggest that you use elevated stands just for safety. I hunt hogs from elevated stands at night with hanging led lights I have built that turn on at dusk and off at dawn over baited area's. If you have any question let me know? Jim

hunt hogs all the time with a bow, dbl lungers work for me with a fixed blade, they usually go 20 yards or so and pile up.there are usually 6 or more, they havnt charged me yet..yet i i say...i have seen em charge cars, but usually after i hit one the others leave....i have missed 2 times in a row once, they went 20 yards and came back both times, leavin me a 3rd shot which i nailed the sucker...they are basically blind, but can smell real good....i recommend a hog board, which is a cutout of a hog in 1/4 plywood, painted black with a pivot head...a kickstand and handles on the back...ya crouch down and hide behind the hog board, when the hogs look at ya, ya pivot the head, as if the cutout was a hog eating, after they blow you off as another pig, you can get within 5 feet of them.

btw, to get away from hogs, ya just pull your feet off the ground....make sure ya get high enough, or you'll be a pinata'
i dont think ya would actually have time to draw your sidearm and kill a hog with out destroying your bow, because ya had ta throw it to draw and shoot?

I kill them with a longbow. A hog is not a mystical beast. Shot placement is the key. Heck, I shot a 300lber just two weeks ago with a 60# longbow from the ground after stalking it. I shoot them from the ground, from the trees. Have been since the early 80s. I love stalking hogs, they are pretty blind, you can almost walk right up on them, provided there is tall grass and you stay low. They dont see well, but smell very well. Play the wind and stay low. Had a buddy, Rloving good on this forum, shoot one from about 5 feet.
As others have mentioned here, aim low. And if all possible, a quarter away shot is the best, but with your set up, you will have no problem getting a pass through on a broad side shot, if you aim a tad bit low and through the vitals.

I went with a guy the first time on a hog hunt and we stalked up on some in some pal mettos SP*, HE shot the first one and it squeeled like crazy,he knocked another arrow and all we could hear was what sounded like a bulldozer tearing through the pal mettos towards that hog and a big old sal came out in PISSED OFF/KICK BUTT/BEAST MODE,POPping her jaws and was looking for whatever did it,i was honestly scared as hell,so the guy double lunged her with that knocked arrow and she quieted down alot. that was the only time ive seen one act like that so far BUT just goes to show you ,they are HIGHLY unpredictable. So always leave yourself an out
Heres some videos of us stalking with bows if your interested, maybe it will give you an idea or help

So I put new blazer vanes on my arrows today the first time I have done so only one year into my archery career and spent about $70.00 on the necessary equipment. So I go to the range today and my second draw the cam module broke off. Time to test Bear Archery's customer service I hope that they can get this problem resolved in a timely manner since my boar hunt is Feb 19.
