Hog hunting in west central FL
I am looking to go hog hunting the weekend after christmas and am looking for good areas to go. Would like to do Green Swamp (West), but am not sure the season is still open or if I need an additional permit.
Any other ideas?

Green Swamp & Green Swamp West are both quota hunts. If you didn't put in for a quota permit or Special Opportunity Permit and actually got drawn, you're out of luck for hunting those area. And you can't use centerfire rifles during small game season on either one.
Caravelle Ranch and Santa Fe Swamp are about the only two places I know of in that area that you don't need quota permits to hunt. They're just a little bit further North of the Green Swamp area. Caravelle's small game season (hogs) goes until January 4th. All you need to hunt there is a hunting license, management area permit, and archery or muzzleloader permit (if you use one or the other). Centerfire rifles are not allowed but you can use shotguns, muzzleloaders, bows, or rimfire rifles. You can only hunt there on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Santa Fe Swamp's season also goes until January 4th. But you can only use a bow or muzzleloader. If you're hunting there you'll need a hunting license, management area permit, and either an archery permit or muzzleloader permit (depending on which you're using).
They are both huge areas and should hold a lot of game. But it may prove difficult to find them. Caravelle has several entry points but Santa Fe only has one.
