Yep, iwould prefer to hunt hogs with with amore powerfulgun. Actually i have killed many dozens with a muzzleloader. Like the original poster i often hunt in an area where center fire rifles and muzzleloaders are banned.
Never chased after any hog that i shot with a .22 magnum. Chased after one that i shot with a.22 LR and got it. Pick your shots carefully and they bang flop.
Yes your right a 22 mag will kill a hog (on a good day) but why have to go chasing after one after you have shot it..min round .243

Sorry if I wasn't clear on which gun is legal. According to the regs I read, the rimfire only is legal. I would be doing it mainly for the meat, so actually the smaller female hog is probably a good idea. I was also attracted to the year round hunting. I'm having shoulder surgery soon, so I'll miss most of deer season. [&o]I'll have to look into a .22 mag!

The only thing you can hunt in FL with a .22 cal is Small Game in season....

You should also re-read the regs for Ocala. It is NOT year round hunting.
Page 16 of the book. Look at the picture with the guy and bow shot hog. Then read the caption below it.

The only animal that the use of 22's are prohibited on is deer I believe. Got to the FWC site and read page 14 of the manual.

Hmm, on the bottom of the page with the season dates it says Wild hogs, skunks, nutrias etc can be hunted year round. I did see where says WMA's may have different regs, so I guess I'd better check a bit better before I go shooting anything!
