Default WILL A 22.250 WORK FOR HOGS?

I WILL BE HOG HUNTING FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS WEEKEND. I WILL BE USING MY BOW FOR AS MUCH AS I CAN. HOW WOULD A 22.250 DO ON A HOG, IT IS DEATH ON COYOTES BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW WELL IT WILL DO WITH A HOG. THE BULLET MAY PASS THROUGH WITHOUT ANY EXPANSION, I DON'T KNOW. I HAVE HEARD THE HYDE IS PRETTY THICK, MABY THAT WILL HELP THE BULLET FLOWER OUT.

I DON'T KNOW HOW EASY THEY DIE, I HAVE PRINTED OUT THE VITALS OF A HOG AND THE HEART IS SUPPRISINGLY LOW.

Put that 22-250 in its ear. That will work just fine!

If you put it in the ear hole and not with a varmint bullet. Do you have 12 gauge with slugs. I have a cousin who uses a .223 and shoots them right behind the ear, but he also guides and hunts several times a week. I wouldn't recommend it for a 1st timer.

Hogs don't die very easy. I have taken several with my 22-250 by shooting them in the head. I have also taken them with a bow. Lots of excitement with a bow.Ifa head shot is not realistic for you then pick out smaller hog like one coyote size and go for the lungs and you will be fine with your rifle. I reload the AMAX bullet in 52 grain and it works great if you know the limitations.Stay with the bow if you can. Nothing like getting close.

22-250 is plenty gun for hogs. Ive got a buddy, who is too old to shoot bows now and all he uses is a 22-250. Ive never seen him lose a single hog. He puts the bullet in the boiler room. His eyes are not what they use to, so he feels a head shot is too small of a mark.

THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR RESPONSES. I WILL TAKE THE .22-250 AS A BACK UP FOR MY BOW.

If I could add a little: the 22.250 will kill a hog, but I wouldn't want to count on it. Yes, if it's place in the ear, but how many guys can guarantee a shot like that when you really need to....? It might be ok if it's for a back-up, but most hog hunters I know will insist on a minimum of a .270 for a single shot kill, and most are using a .308, 30.06, 30.30 (where the vegetation is thick) and so on. Just my two cents. Good luck.

Hogs are still just flesh and blood. Yes they are tough real tough but they are not armour plated. The 22-250 will put a hurtin' on a hog just use a good bonded bullet for deep penetration.

I will respectfully disagree. Ive never seen a hog shot with a 22-250 do anything more than if shot with a 30-06 or a 300. Actually, ive had hogs shot with my 300wby run further than ones ive shot with a 30-30. And im speaking of lung/heart shots, not head shots. Ive had these things all over my land since they found their way to Texas. I could shot one a day if I wanted. Most "hog hunters" blow the hogs ability out of porportion. Heck, the last 15+ hogs ive shot have been with a slow recurve bow that is 50lbs at 28 inches.
