12ga for hogs
#12
The first hog I ever shot was a big boar hog. He had just been shot by a guy with 00 Buck and the few pellets that hit were spread across his body. I tracked that hog and caught up to him and he was hurting. Popping teeth and all. I ended the misery with a Rottweiler Magnum slug and it knockedhim stiff legged. The butcher asked me how many times I shot him because he found 3 different types of shot in him plus my slug. He was only shot once before I got to him that day, which means he was running around with 2 other loads of 00 in him from who knows when. The only sure fire bet if you have to use shot is Copper Solid shot to the head or 000. I personally only use 12 guage Rottweiler Magnum Slugs and most drop in their tracks and only a select few have taken it and rolled over within 10 yds. No reason to take the chance unless you have to. They're the toughest things around, but why make them go through it if it can be avoided.

Rebel, would you happen to know how the hog hunting is out in Big Cypress?

Wet!

When they prohibitedswamp buggies from leaving the main roads, I lost interest in Big Cypress. Alot of gators, panthers, bearsandsnakes, not to mention the skeeters! There is plenty of game , but you have to go after it. Watch out for theSW 1/3 ofBig Cypress, that's Monroe, County and hunting is Prohibited in Monroe! We started to go to Babcock/Webbfor awhile!

Big Cypress is 565,848 acres and very easy to get lost in the swamp. Most hunters have gone to Air Boats. Have you tried Fish Eating Creek? Plenty hogs there!

i have used 00 buck and killled a lot of hogs with it but i always wait until they a less than 25 yards but nothing beats a good slug to put them down on the spot its like hitting them with a semi truck
