Stalk the hogs or tree-stand?
I've only ever stalked them in the non-deer seasons. I am weary though this fall of stalking them while other deer hunters are sitting up in the stands trying to lure deer in. 1) I dont want to get shot and 2) I dont want to ruin their hunt. How does everyone else hunt hog?

In most FL WMA's there are dog hunting bounderies that you are not allowed to cross.
Stalking hogs when deer hunters are on stand, is not a good idea. Best to hunt the dog huntingareas in day light!

However I can hunt them, I will. As long as I'm hog huntin!!!!But in all reality, I usually hunt them out of treestands in the spring and summer and while deer hunting from a stand as well.........no I don't let hogs walk if I'm deer hunting. If they come in....they get hit! But in the winter months, we stalk a lot more just cause it's cooler down here. It's hard to stalk them in the warmer months without getting overheated and drenched in sweat which makes it even harder when your on the ground.

Never really heard of anyone stalking hogs, most people use dogs and a pistol/knife if they are going on the ground. Unless your on your property or a friends property with dogs, dont hunt hogs on the ground, they are really vicious. I keep to my ground blind when i hunt hog.

I've killed all my boars byspot-n-stalk and using a bow. IMHO this is far more exciting than shooting them with a gun from a treestand. It can also be more productive when the hogs aren't active. Regardless of which method you use - they are really fun to hunt.

I Hunt on private land. During Deer season I don't tend to shoot hogs unless they interfear with my Deer hunting. But during the off season, it is spot and stalk all the way using a lever action open sight gun. It's heart pumper to crawl up on a few hogs in the grass and see how close you can get before you take them. If you careful you can get 20 yards of so. Mind you I have not tried this with hogs over 200Lb but it sure is fun with the smaller ones. Its nuts when you shoot one at 20 yards and the others with him start doing a chinese fire drill near you. Better be ready for a quick second shot though.

I've shot them at under 10 yds like that and they usually can't figure out where the shot came from and end up running right into you. your right it does look like a chinese fire drill. It's interesting to watch the bigger ones hair stand up on their backs and create kind of a ring around the smaller ones.

All depends. If you have a good source they are coming into like food or water, set up a stand. If not, stalk. I do them both with equal success.
