Is my rifle big enough for hogs
Yeah I have a 300 Remington Ultra Magnum I know it will dump a bull elk right in his tracks but I heard someone say that the shoulder blades on these hogs are up to 2 inches thick now i have also heard people say that a 44 mag at close range they will keep going and I would pry shoot 220 barnes round nose bullets but Im kinda getting this idea that I need a Big Africangame gun. any comments?

you don't need a gun that big.[]I shoot a Win 243 with 80 and 100 grain bullets.it has taken a 100 or 200 hogs,maybe more.[][8D]
if my243 will do it , I knowyour 300 will, don't worry; just shoot them.

The only thing you have to worry about with that round is how big an exit wound you want to put in your hogs! It'll be fine. If you find a hog that it won't take down, give me a call, it would have to be a record!

your rifle will do awsome for hogs. if you can hit the hog anywhere with that rifle, chances are you will have a deadhog.i use my.300RUM for pig hunts during day light hours and i haven't had one get away yet. i shot a 250 lb sow in the ham and she didn't run, granted the shot didn't kill her butshe sat there where i shot her until i could put the fatal bullet in her. i love my .300rum!!

It doesn't matter what size gun you shoot them with if you don't hit them right they WILL run off. We've shot them with everything from .223's to a .450 Marlin and if they were not hit right they will run off. A bigger gun helps if you don't make as good a shot but they can take a lot of bullets. I've personally had to crawl through the brush on my hands and knees to follow up a wounded 300lb hog that somebody shot with a .300 WM from 50 yards but hit it too far back. We heard it go down and it was thrashing around so we crawled in after it and after we got about 10 feet from it the hog got up and luckily ran the other way. The brush was so thick we couldn't move. So even though your gun is plenty big for hogs but you still need to hit them right.
