RE: Is my rifle big enough for hogs
So far I've only shot two, but the guns I used were a .22lr with CCI's Stingers and a .54 caliber muzzle loader, and they both got the job done with one shot

RE: Is my rifle big enough for hogs
Thanks for the anatomy lesson. It could come in handy if I ever find somewhere to hunt in Texas without paying per pig (I could do that on the playground hunts in PA).

RE: Is my rifle big enough for hogs
i would have to say that might be just a little to much gun if you want minimal meat damage

RE: Is my rifle big enough for hogs
Placement, placement, placement. I have used 3006 and had that side plate stop it dead on the exit (350lb boar). Found bullet fully intact. On the other hand I placed a 22 long rifle behind the ear of one (only thing I had at the time) and it droped in its tracks (195lb sow)

RE: Is my rifle big enough for hogs
No, not saying that. The .300 would do the job for sure. just saying where the brain is located. We trap hogs all the time, and when we kill them we use a .22LR, but we place the bullet between the ears not the eyes, and they drop like a ton of lead. |
RE: Is my rifle big enough for hogs
I took mine with a 12 guage slug. I will say though my first shot was 00Buck shot. When I dressed the 80lb hog out the ooBuck had broken the rib cage and the hog ran like it wasn't even touched. My next round was a slug which was immediate death.
