RE: Is my rifle big enough for hogs
I would try to wait for a head on shot and put it right between his eyes. It would be interesting to see if the bullet would run him all the way through lol.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions in hog hunting. The brain of a hog is not located between the eyes, that would be nothing but nasal pasages. The brain is higher up on the head, more like the forhead, or between the ears. |

My mini 14 works great for hogs andit's only a .223

RE: Is my rifle big enough for hogs
You can't tell me that if you shoot a hog with a 300 magnum, head on, right between the eyes, that he won't drop dead where he stands. That 300 will probably end up depositing the bullet somewhere in the pigs guts, maybe all the way through, I don't even know. I would have to think that he would drop dead in his tracks. I could be wrong. I will have to find out someday.

RE: Is my rifle big enough for hogs
Not sure I would want to clean a pig that had some monster round tear up his gut bag. . . .they smell bad enough when you don't poke any stink bags. I think I would wait for the broad side shot right behind the ear. No need to make a big mess and or tear up good meat.
Idid take apig with a head on shot using a .357 and that round ended up down in his neck. |
