Touching up a Browning XT Trap gun finish.

Rather than touching up the bad spots, look into refinishing the whole thing for a more uniform appearance. Word of warning. Browning finishes are very hard, like the clear coat on a car. Or send it to someone who refinishes stocks.
Check with $rowne!!'s. I think they carry stuff to re-do a stock. If the nicks are deep, don't short yourself ion the sanding. A poorly sanded stock will look bad no matter what coasting you use.

Joe is correct. Browning's finishes are very hard. I've found even stripper doesn't have mush effect. I refinished two Micro Hunters a couple years ago and on the second one I found that, and I know this sounds crazy, but broken glass because of its different shapes was ideal for gently scraping away this lacquer type finish. Of course there was some fine sandpaper work and steel wool to get a nice smooth finish. Once to my liking I gave the stock about 10-12 coats of Tru-oil then let it dry for a week. Then gave it a couple coats of high gloss polyurethane.
