Joe is correct. Browning's finishes are very hard. I've found even stripper doesn't have mush effect. I refinished two Micro Hunters a couple years ago and on the second one I found that, and I know this sounds crazy, but broken glass because of its different shapes was ideal for gently scraping away this lacquer type finish. Of course there was some fine sandpaper work and steel wool to get a nice smooth finish. Once to my liking I gave the stock about 10-12 coats of Tru-oil then let it dry for a week. Then gave it a couple coats of high gloss polyurethane.
