S&W Model 460XVR...who's going to get one when they come out?
#1
I've shot the X-frame in the Model 500 before and really liked the revolver, but I don't care for the .500 S&W cartridge. It's just too much gun for my needs (deer hunting), and more expensive to shoot, both for factory ammo and reloads. But I've long said that if they chambered the X-Frame in .454 Casull I'd love to have one. Well, it looks like there are others who feel the same way and the boys over an S&W finally fulfilled our wish and then some by designing the Model 460XVR and the new .460 S&W cartridge to go with it (talk about a screaming fast revolver round!). The beauty of it is that it will shoot .454 Casull and .45 Colt interchangably, which is what I wanted from the start.
Anyway, I talked to one of my local (and better) dealers, and he said that he could get me one for in the $800 range when they come out, but that during the final testing phase of developement S&W decided that the steel the cylender was made of wasn't up to their quality control standard and the guns weren't meeting S&W's longevity requirements, so the release had been delayed until they get it straightened out. Probably late summer, at the earliest. [

I'd really like to get the 460XVR, but I'm not sure I want to wait for it because it might be cutting it really close to deer season, and I've considered getting another Ruger SRH in .454 Casull instead.
Thoughts?

That really looks like a ture hand cannon. With it interchangable to the .454 how could you go wrong. The test said it was not bad on recoil with the .454 so it might be the best of both worlds for ya . Good luck

For hunting I would pass on it in favor of the Encore. Better caliber options and interchangable barrel as a bonus.

I thought about the Encore, but in Iowa we're only allowed to use straight walled pistol cartridges. Otherwise the .375JDJ would be very appealing. The interchangable barrels are a positive that I have considered. I will give them a closer look.
