those prices seem very expensive to me. nikon monarchs are cheaper in canada then leupold scopes are. nikon has much higher light transmition and it has everything else the leupold has. personaly i don't think leupolds are the best in their pricerange anymore. your paying for the name more then anything. i have a vx-ii and i love it but i would have bought a nikon monarch instead if i had looked thru one before i bought the leupold.

cheers

I use both a Nikon Monarch 3x9x40 and a 3.5x10x50 and they have well above average light transmission and clarity. I also have a Leupold Vari-X III 3.5x10x50 and when compared side by side with the Nikon 3.5x10x50 I can't detect any significant differences.

I lean more to Nikons because I've used their photographic lenses for the past 30 years in rain, snow, dust, heat and cold and they have never let me down.

Midsouth Shooting supply has the 3x9x40 Nikon's for $290 and the 3.5x10x50 for $420, the Leupolds run $455 for 3.5x10x50s in VariX-III
