RE: Which brand of action is the best?
Most custom builders use the Remington 700 action. Not knocking any of the others.

RE: Which brand of action is the best?
If I had the money, I would have a custom rifle built on a Dakota Model 76 African Action. I would also use a Weatherby Mark V, or Sako Model 75 Action. Good luck.

Speaking of talking out the butt...Im here to offer my unparalelled expert opinion....
Nothing and I mean nothing is a better action to base a custom big dollar rifle on than the 710 action!! Simply unbeatable!! :D:D |

Here is a little more info on the Savage/Lazzeroni
To provide more access for his short magnums, Lazzeroni struck a similar deal with Savage Arms(same as Sako). Savage would modify its short-action Model 16-FCSS Weather Warrior to handle Lazzeroni's 7.21 (.284) Tomahawk and 7.82 (.308) Patriot. The resultant Savage 16-LZ, marketed exclusively by Lazzeroni Arms, was priced at $699. |
RE: Which brand of action is the best?
I have read this whole post and never seen a Howa action mentioned. I have seen many 1000 yard rifles built from this action. Must be something to it ..

RE: Which brand of action is the best?
I personally would go with either a remington or savage action

RE: Which brand of action is the best?
ORIGINAL: Slamfire ORIGINAL: Rebel Hog I have the same thoughts as BC. There are reasons why a 3 lug is better than 2 lugs. from 90 to 60 degrees and relieve case side thrust, depending the lugs are lapped even. Most of factory cases have .003 to .005 run-out. The thin side will become the long side and thick side will be the short side when fired, causing the case to flex to the side. A 4 lug rifle will improve this condition even more (position 12,3,6 and 9 o'clock).. Check run-out on a case fired with a 2 lug rifle and than check a case fired with a 3 lug rifle. Which one has flexed more than the other. Which ever way that case has flexed is the way the bullet will print on the rifling and will not be true centered. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON 2 AND 3 LUGS? |
