Before today I was going to buy a savage 300 win.mag (also with accu trigger) with the synthetic stock and SS barrel and costs $419. But today I walked into this gun shop in town that is going out of business and they have a HOWA 30.06. with the synthetic stock and SS barrel and it was $417 and is now on sale for $332. So my question is that is there a major difference between the 300 win.mag and the 30.06 round. Will I be able to tell? I am looking to be able to shoot up to 300 yards or maybe a little more and mainly for deer and sometime hopefully elk. So would the 30.06. be good? I plan on getting a Nikon Buckmaster 4-12x50 AO scope to put on which ever gun I buy. The money really dosen't matter but I could put it to go to more accessories. Thank you.

In all reality the 30-06 will do pretty much everything the 300 Win Mag will do with less recoil and less expense. I'm not talking numbers and tables, I am talking field conditions and putting an animal in the freezer. Howa makes a good rifle, while taking nothing away from the Savage. If it were me I would probably go with the Howa just because of the price and chambering.

Not taking anything from the Savage, but I would grab that Howa quickly. That is a great deal on that rifle. I am assuming that it is new. Nothing wrong with the Savage, but that is a great deal. Larry

you know alot of the discussions on here about calibers and whatnot, seem to forget that this is the basic baseline/benchmark discussed. "will it put game in my freezer"?????? Well said frizzellr!!

I'D SHOOT THE SAVAGE BECAUSE NOTHING SHOOTS LIKE A SAVAGE RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, THE ACCUTRIGGER IS AWESOME AND I LIKE SAVAGES. HOWEVER, THAT'S A GOOD DEAL ON THE HOWA. THE QUESTION IS THIS....
HAVE YOU EVER FIRED A 300WM? THERE IS A DISTINCT DIFFERENCE IN RECOIL FROM A 30.06 AND A 300MAG. AMMO IS MORE EXPENSIVE AND MORE THAN ONE SHOOTER HAS BECOME A FLINCHING SHOOTER FROM A 300.
