I put two,new in box, rifles on layaway today. One is a Weatherby Mark V synthetic blued in 30- 06 for $ 550.00 and the other is a Vanguard Sporter in 300 WSM. for $ 400. 00. I would be happy with either cal. and I can only afford one. My question is which one is the better buy. Are trigger pull ,accuracy etc. going to be equal because they are both Weatherbys? Both cal. are suitable for what I hunt.

$550 is a great price for a Mk V, and while I think that it's not a real value at $1100, it'd be pretty attractive at $550. $400 for a Vanguard is a pretty decent deal as well, and is well known for its accuracy. I think it really boils down to which one you like the best as far as fit and finish, handling, etc...

I own 4 Weatherbys. 2 Vanguards, and 2 Mark V's, and all are excellent shooters. While the Mark V action is more desirable than the Vanguards standard 2 lug action, The Vanguard is a very strong accurate bolt action. Bill T.
