I have a Hart rest. I used to to use it a quite a bit, then I got tired of lugging the damn thing to and from the range. These days I use wood and whatever bags they have at the range (ours are shot bags filled with grape seed).

Out of the ones mentioned, I have say I am leaning towards the Caldwell's Lead Sled. However, its a bit pricey. The cheapest I could find is for 109. I wouldn't mind having a used one. Is anyone looking to sell one they own?

Be aware that the point of impact can be effected if you use any type of rest that clamps or holds the gun so it can't recoil normally.

I use a "Uncle Bud's Bulls Bag" for about 10 years and I am very happy with it. Good luck.

I've used the Varminter for years. Not near the best rest, but it worked. This year, Santa brought me the 'Lead Sled'. Wow, what a great rest. Hands down, the best rest I've shot over. Sand bags and the rest are great, but the lead sled is the best, especially if you're doing alot of serious range time.

The Lead Sled certainly seems to be the most popular choice. Perhaps I will just splurge and buy it. However, I am still open to cheaper ones. For example, the Caldwell Steady Rest With Sporter Contour seen here:

Any thoughts on this model?
